The Basin Reserve is commonly named as ‘The Basin’. It is a cricket ground located in Wellington in the New Zealand. It is utilized for first class, one day cricket and test matches. Due to its age and historic place status, it is renowned as the most popular cricket ground. It is the only ground to hold historic place class. It was found in the year 1868. The area reserved by the ground was originally a lake, named as the Basin Lake. After the first event being held on the ground, local societies started to arrange sport and athletic meetings on the ground.

Wellington Cricket Team is the home team of the Basin Reserve. Other than the cricket matches, it has been utilized for events like sports events, concerts and other social meetings. But nowadays, it is not utilized for cricket, especially Test matches. The rugby union, rugby league and football matches have been played on the ground. It was the major football ground from 1950 to 1960.
